Editorial: Vote Walters for CCCCD Ward 2, the most important local election you’re not paying attention to
Danville SanRamon
Walters’ experience is needed on college board
As a faculty member of the Contra Costa Community College District, I support Judy Walters for Ward 2 Trustee. She has actually taught a California community college class.
Judy has served as a dean, college president (president of Diablo Valley College and Berkeley City College, no less), chancellor, member of the California Community College Accreditation Commission, and vice president for policy analysis at the state Chancellor’s Office. How much more experience would students, community constituents, staff and faculty want?
Judy has more than 30 years of California community college experience working on policy issues with the statewide Board of Governors, local district boards, academic senates, classified professionals and student government. And on top of all that, if you meet her, you’ll find her a really nice person.

Walters has right touch for Contra Costa colleges
Judy Walters is an unusually qualified candidate for the Contra Costa Community College Governing Board, Ward 2. Past president of Diablo Valley College and Berkeley City College, and former vice-chancellor at California Community Colleges headquarters in Sacramento, Walters’ wealth of experience will speak to the needs of anyone attending our colleges.
I’ve worked with her for over 30 years locally and statewide, watching her bring integrity, her extensive knowledge of the needs of community college students, and her ability to mold an often-cantankerous bunch of individuals into a smoothly functioning group.
She has extensive experience with conflict, from overseeing college budgets to listening to students’ concerns, working with the entire college community, establishing solid priorities. And Walters understands how to govern colleges without micromanaging them.

East Bay Times
I endorse Judy Walters for Contra Costa Community College District Governing Board. In my roles as faculty member and dean, I worked closely with her when she was President of Diablo Valley College. Walters turned around the acrimonious atmosphere that had existed for years between
in jeopardy. The East Bay Times editorial unfairly dismissed Walters’s knowledge of district finances. On the contrary, as President of the largest college in the district, she had an intimate knowledge of district finances, and has experience with budgets at Berkeley City, Woodland and Chabot-Las Positas Community Colleges.
It is really important at this time to replace the incumbent and reform the Board with a qualified, experienced, proven leader who can work with groups to reform what needs to be reformed.
